Haul and updates

Hello, strangers! That’s not a very inspired blog title, but that’s all I can come up with this morning, how sad!
The Spring school holidays have finished and I feel rejuvenated (sort-of) and ready to come back to my blog and Youtube channel. I have been missing you!

There’s a video down below, but first, I wanted to mention that I have some of my art for sale, in digital files, here on my blog. You can choose from 3 different pieces (or buy all 3!!), download them to your computer and print them at home or at your favourite printing place. Here is a little preview for you!

To find them, simply click on Downloads / Art Journal Extracts up there in my menu bar, or here!

And now for the video, where I explain a bit more about, well, everything, really…

Scrapbook Process #9 – And so, it begins

After a long and never-ending winter (or so it seemed), Spring has finally turned up. For my family, that means that lengthy walks on the beach can now resume. We go to the beach all year round, but especially so in the warmer seasons.
I took this picture of my son Leon and his dad just over a week ago and I knew then I was going to scrapbook this one. It was the first time that Leon walked on the beach. He had been there before, of course, but it was the first time that he walked, himself, on his own two feet. It’s something that should be remembered, right?

Anyway, I was feeling it was time to get it done, this morning, so I printed the picture on my home printer (it does a decent job, by the way) and set to work. I’m really happy with how it turned out, but you tell me what you think!

Scrapbook Process #8 – Lovely Dream

Hey friends! I’m pretty sure it’s still Monday somewhere in the world, so I’m still on time for my self-imposed schedule of a new video on Mondays. Phew!

This is another wedding photo layout. I had a bunch of those printed up after the wedding (7 years ago!) and a few others that I printed up last year when I made an album for my mum, so I’m just using them up, right?! My scrapbooking almost always starts with an idea of how I want the page to look, and I choose the picture(s) accordingly.
But moving on. I fell in love with the Crate Paper Craft Market Stitched paper the moment I had it in my hands. And I kind of knew, then, what I wanted to do with it. I knew I wanted to colour it. Fast forward a few weeks and my original idea became more refined. What is really exciting is that it turned out just as I had hoped!

Here is the video to have a peek into my process.

Because of the beautifully bright background papers, I felt it didn’t need much embellishing at all. I guess that it is more my style. Why I love people’s layouts with lots and lots of pretty embellishments, I think I prefer mines a bit more subdued!

Project Life 2015: weeks 34 & 35

Hey everyone! It’s a beautiful Friday here today, so I’m going to keep this one short and sweet, because the outdoors are calling me!
I had very little time to film, edit and narrate a process video this week (if you want to know why, check the beginning of my previous video, here: https://youtu.be/PBEHp3nhIhY), but I managed to do it all in record time. I’m sure you’re all as happy as I am!

But without further ado, here’s the video:

Happy Mail Day

There’s nothing like a bunch of goodies being delivered to your door to make your day brighter.

In this video, I’m sharing the unexpected box of goodies that I received from Simon Says Stamp after joining their affiliates program (hence the banner in my right sidebar and product links in my upcoming videos and blog posts). It also happens that I received a bunch of goodies from Blitsy (that I paid for, not a gift) and so I included them in my video too.

So, a massive thank you to Simon Says Stamp! I can’t wait to play with my new goodies!
Also, check out Blitsy and if you like it, sign up using my referral link, ha!

Monday cards: inspired by quilting

Hey friends! It’s Monday. I know. But look, I’m back, and I brought you a new video, too! How awesome is that?
Recently, I’ve been looking for ways to bridge the gap between all the crafts I love, and this new project allowed me to bring together 2 things that I enjoy very much indeed: paper and patterns. So, I made a few cards. And a couple of project life cards too.
A few cars inspired by quilting

The beauty of this project, is that you don’t need much: a card base, strips of pretty paper (or washi tapes!), a bit of glue and maybe a stamps or two. And voila! Done! Fits me and my non-existent card making skills.

So, I hope you’ll enjoy this video, and I’ll see you on Wednesday with a new Project Life spread AND video!

(Also, this video went live way before I wrote this blog post, so really, you should subscribe to my youtube channel to make sure you’re not missing anything!)

Mother’s Day card inspired by string (he)art

Hey there! I’m back with another video! I hope you’re enjoying them as much as I do!
Today, I’m getting ready for Mother’s Day by creating a couple of cards inspired by one of my favourite crafts from childhood: string art. Using just paper and thread, if is really easy to recreate the look of this beloved craft, which has been making a come back in the last few years. (And because all my supplies were out, I also made a couple of cards for my project life!)
String art cards

You won’t need much to create these cards: cardstock, thread, needle, a pokey tool and a bit of washi. Chances are, you’ve got all of that at home already!

Here is the video. I’m afraid the narration ends rather abruptly, but really, nothing essential is missing.

Project Life 2015: week 3

Hey there! I’m back with another Project Life page and another video! Fancy!

Project Life week 3
For this week, I decided to go for a monochromatic effect, with my chosen colours being white and black with touches of gold. I have to be honest though, I am not in love with it. It feels a bit forced (to me – I’m my biggest critic, mind!), but I guess that in the whole album, it’ll be just fine.

Week 3 close-up
I didn’t use a whole lot of products or embellishments on this page. The cards with the rounded corners are from Studio Calico, the black and white patterned papers are from a 6×6 paper pad by Heidi Swapp from the Favorite Things collection. The background stamp I used for my title card was a cheap one that I picked up from one of our red big box stores here in NZ ages ago. The embossing powder were Simon Says Stamp fine detail white and Ranger enchanted gold. The very few embellishments I used were all from Studio Calico February Project Life Kit (Cirque), which is now sold out.

Week 3 in album
And here it is in my album. On the left, you can just see the newspaper we were in back in January. I macgyvered a 6 x 12 envelope from a 12×12 scrapbook page. Did I just show my age by using a reference to Macgyver? Yes I’m a child of the 80s. I macgyver things, I do not hack or DIY things. Tangent aside, I just needed the one envelope to hold the newspaper and I didn’t want to spend NZ$25 for 5 envelopes. I really only needed one. I’d have happily paid up to NZ$10 for just ONE envelope. But they weren’t sold like that, so I made myself one. It’s working pretty well!

But enough talking, let’s get to the fun stuff! Here’s my video! I hope you enjoy it and please, Like it if you well, like it, subscribe if you want to see more and leave me a comment here or on Youtube if you have any questions! I’ll be back tomorrow (hopefully not so late!) with a new Colour Friday video! Stay tuned! 😉

Project Life 2015 : week 2

Howdy! It’s been a while, right?! I promise I won’t abandon you for so long anymore, dear blog. I’ve got plans. Big Ones. And being more present on the ol’ blog is one of them.

Let’s jump right back into it. At the end of last year, I decided that I would start my Project Life album in January 2015, to keep track of our daily lives and to give something to the boys to look back. And I started well. I did my first spread at the end of week one. And… I didn’t touch it until last week or so. See, while I loved looking at the pictures, I was non-plussed by the look of my pages. They weren’t me. They were not what I had in mind when I dreamed up this project. So I just left it aside, trying to ignore it.

Project Life week one - false start

As it was before I gave it a makeover

It felt very crowded and like it didn’t have any space to breathe. There was no room left for the pictures to shine. It took me 3 months to identify what I didn’t like about it. But finally a couple of weeks ago, I pulled everything out and redid my first spread. And I love it much, MUCH, better.

Project Life Week 1

Here’s my new week 1 spread

There are actually more pictures in this newer version than in the last one but it doesn’t feel so crowded. I don’t know, I just like it better!

But I hear you say: Isn’t this blog post title “Week 2”? So why does she ramble on about week 1? Well, you’re right, I was off on a long tangent here. Back on tracks. Here’s week2:

TADAH! A Video just for you guys! Let me know what you think! The sound is a bit echo-y, but you know. If this thing takes off, I will invest in better equipment to film these videos. At the moment, I’m filming with my iPad (which means lots of stopping and uploading to the laptop) and doing the voice over with the laptop’s microphone. It’s ok, but it could be better! So please, like my video, subscribe to my channel to make sure that 1) you won’t be missing any new videos and 2) I know that you enjoyed it so that I can make more!

New Craft: Scrapbooking

If you had told me, 10 years ago, that I would be interested in creating scrapbook pages, I would have told you “Nope. Not gonna happen.” You see, until recently, I didn’t see the point of maintaining a scrapbook. It felt like a lot of non-sense, when you have perfectly useable photos albums. But that was before I had kids, before I felt the need to tell the story of our lives so that we could all look back in a few years and reminisce. It is the journaling part of scrapbooking that drew me in. Oh and the pretty papers!

First ever scrapbook page

My first ever scrapbook page – And I don’t hate it completely!

I am by no mean a talented scrapbooker, but I’m enjoying the ride. I’m loving going through my pictures, getting them printed and then deciding what to do with them. It can be as simple or complicated as I wish and it doesn’t have to be expensive. Even though, I find myself looking for supplies to make my page more and more interesting! I am very envious of the choice that people outside of New Zealand have!

2nd scapbook page

My 2nd layout – already, I am much happier about it!

It is going to take me a while to find my own style, and I’m happy with that. I am really looking forward to going through it when I’ve got more pages done (so far, only 4!). I see it as an heirloom piece. When I’m gone (or when my memory is gone), there will still be the stories I have written about us and that… that makes me happy!

Now, my next goal is to start doing some “Project Life”, also known as pocket scrapbooking. I’m not sure how I’m going to make it work for me, but I guess I just need to start (I do have some supplies). Stay tuned!…
